Oils on burlap box canvas. A4. 2015. Art commission for someone ‘who loved donkeys and used to work abroad at a donkey sanctuary’. I picked a more traditional looking donkey than ‘Little Vijay‘ and subtly suggested a head and shoulders portrait as less is more with burlap. Burlap canvas moves around more than primed canvas and there are often loose threads which I think adds to the donkey’s characteristics so I allow the burlap to show through as part of the painting. There is less opportunity for correcting any mistakes on this canvas.
